Manheim Twp. H.S. BULLETIN #7 Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010 | | Peace Club: This is Manheim Township Peace Club’s inaugural year. Manheim Township Peace Club’s main objective is to advocate the message of peace throughout the world. MTPC will accomplish this goal through posters, letters, petitions, and public speakers. The Club’s informational meeting is at 2:50 p.m. on Sept. 20 in the College and Career Center. If you are interested but cannot attend the meeting, stop by the College and Career Center and speak with Mr. Broome. G. Broome Bowling: An organizational meeting will be held on Sept. 14 @ 2:15 pm in room 264 for students interested in find out more about the high school bowling team. C. Stephan PSAT: If you are a junior considering attending a four year college after high school you will need to take a college entrance exam this spring, either the SAT or the ACT. On Saturday, Oct. 16, MTHS will offer a practice for the SAT called the PSAT. Juniors scoring high enough can enter the National Merit Scholarship competitions. Sophomores and freshmen may register for a practice PSAT and take the test during their junior year to enter the National Merit Scholarship competitions. Registration is Sept. 13-17 in the guidance office. There is a $21 registration fee. Test preparation booklets will be given to all who register. B. Walker Key Club K-Family and O-Ambassadors: there will be a committee meeting at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14 in the College and Career Center. G. Broome MTPA: There will be a kick-off meeting and pizza party for all students interested in getting involved in Manheim Township Performing Arts this year. The meeting will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 15 from 5:30-7:00 pm in room 140. This year’s play ad musical will be announced and play audition materials and crew information will be distributed. If you plan on attending, please sign up on the board outside room 140 or on the MTPA website. Please bring $3 to cover the cost of pizza and soda. M. Wagner Chinese fluency: If you are a bi-lingual student, fluent in both English and Mandarin Chinese and would be willing to help as an interpreter for a visiting Chinese educator in October, please see Mrs. Nell in the main office as soon as possible. Manheim Township High School would like to recognize and honor one of you by nominating you for the Prudential Spirit of Community Award. This is a prestigious award that can lead to state and national recognition with a trip to DC to receive a beautiful crystal trophy and financial award. If you are interested, please pick up an application instruction sheet from the receptionist in the main office. Applications must be completed and submitted to Mrs. Mitchell by November 1st. D. Mitchell IB Program: Freshmen and Sophomores interested in enrolling in the International Baccalaureate program their junior years should attend a brief informational meeting Wednesday, September 15, before or after school in Convocation Hall. Meeting times are 7:15 am or 2:45 pm. Contact Mr. Penner in room 236 for more information. L. Penner Guidance: Any student interested in taking the SAT reasoning or SAT subject test on Oct. 9 needs to register by Friday Sept.10. You can register on www.collegeboard.com. M. Stoudt MT Future Teachers Club: If you are interested in a career in education you are invited to attend the first meeting of the MT Future Teachers Club on Wednesday, September 22 at 7:15 AM in room 252. You can join this club in addition to other clubs and activities. See Mr. Rutledge in room 252 or Mrs. Charlene Smith in room 160 with any questions. T. Rutledge Interact Club: Interact Club will have a MANDATORY meeting on Thursday, Sept. 9 at 2:45 p.m. in room 016. Please see Ms. Sholder if you cannot attend. E. Sholder Basketball: Attention all boys who plan to try out for the Freshman, JV, or Varsity boys’ basketball team and are not involved in a fall sport. Workouts will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 8 from 3-5:00 p.m. in the south gym. J. Kreider Student-to-Student Program: If you are interested in becoming a Student-to-Student Peer Buddy, there will be a short informational meeting on Monday, Sept. 13 at 2:45 in room 008. P. Barr, L. Barbers Ice Hockey: Registration and evaluations for the Manheim Township Ice Hockey Club's 2010 - 2011 season will take place at the Lancaster Ice Rink beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 7. Varsity and JV players (grades 9 - 12) are asked to attend sessions on Sept. 9 and Sept. 16 from 3:30 - 5:00 pm. Players must have the appropriate paperwork completed and be registered with USA Hockey to attend evaluations. A registration fee is charged. Loula Dodge Poetry Festival: Any student interested in attending the Dodge Poetry Festival in Newark, New Jersey in October this fall needs to attend an informational meeting in room 260 on Tuesday, Sept. 14. The trip to Dodge will be an all-day field trip and is completely free! B. Earley Seniors: If you have not had your yearbook photograph taken, there are two more dates available, Saturday, Oct. 2 and Saturday, Oct. 16 from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. in Convocation Hall. Please see me in room 175 if you have any specific questions. Mrs. Daveler Work the Football Chains - Four students are needed to work the chains for JH and JV football games. It is helpful to have knowledge of the game of football. These games start at 4:00 p.m. and are held in the Stadium. These are paid positions.
